Book Out: 3 Reasons Why Not to Freak Out

Just as the game against Wake Forest was a great time to test Ian Book as a starter, Florida State is a perfect time to have to use Brandon Wimbush. If, in an unfortunate case, Ian Book is unable to play for multiple games, Brandon will need to get back in the flow of games.

Brian Kelly will more than likely confirm Ian Book’s injury later this afternoon during a press conference. Book’s success has been instrumental in taking the Notre Dame offense to the next level.

Breaking news earlier this morning was gut-wrenching at first glance. Ian Book finished the game successfully beating Northwestern. His 23 yard touchdown run in the final minutes of the game painted no picture of injury whatsoever.

All was well. Notre Dame moved to 9-0. The rankings came out Tuesday. Notre Dame was moved up to #3 (ahead of Michigan as they should be).

Years from now, I will tell my grand children where I was the morning of November 8, 2018 when it was announced that Ian Book would not play against Florida State.

Three Reasons Why Not to Freak Out

1. Ian Book is hurt, not the entire Notre Dame offense.

At the beginning of the season, the Notre Dame offense as a whole was in question as much as Brandon Wimbush. Wimbush took more heat because that is what comes from being the starting quarterback at Notre Dame.

All the Notre Dame running backs are available and healthy. All the receivers are healthy. The line is healthy (minus Alex Bars, of course). Brandon Wimbush will have the entire offense at his disposal. Notre Dame is 9-0.

The offensive unit has been getting better as a whole, not just Book. I realize that an effective passing game allows other things to open up in the playbook. I know. Yes, I know. That is why Notre Dame’s offense has been so successful with Book instead of Wimbush. Do realize, the offense was effective enough to win the first three games with Wimbush.

Wimbush, to his credit, orchestrated a victory against Michigan. That victory grows more impressive regardless of how analysts are viewing it.

Florida State (if you read our preview article) is one of the worst defenses Notre Dame will face all season. The passing defense is especially awful. Chip Long will give Brandon some easy throws and work on his confidence.

2. Ian Book is hurt, not the entire Notre Dame defense.

The Notre Dame defense is still a dominate force. Against, Florida State that is not going to change. Florida State’s offense is abysmal. In their first game against Virginia Tech, FSU managed to score 3 points.

The most points FSU has managed to put up was 38 against Wake Forest.

Notre Dame’s defense is going to dominate Florida State. Florida State has a good chance to get goose-egged against Notre Dame.

3. Florida State is awful

Notre Dame is great all around. The offense has improved (not just Ian Book). The defense has improved.

The Reality

Just as the game against Wake Forest was a great time to test Ian Book as a starter, Florida State is a perfect time to have to use Brandon Wimbush. If, in an unfortunate case, Ian Book is unable to play for multiple games, Brandon will need to get back in the flow of games.

Brandon Wimbush is a winner at Notre Dame. If we want to beat Florida State and prepare effectively for Syracuse, Brandon needs the prep work.

Relax.

Breathe.

Notre Dame will win against Florida State this weekend.
